ABLE NEVADA
ABLE NEVADA
Giving those with disabilities the ability to save. New ABLE Nevada helps individuals save, while preserving their SSI and Medicaid.
Helping to make life better.
There's no limit to what people with disabilities can do. Now, that includes saving, too. With ABLE Nevada, you can save for qualified disability expenses without losing your eligibility for certain assistance programs, like SSI and Medicaid.
Plan highlights
Save with special tax advantages.
The earnings on your investments are federally tax-deferred and tax-free, if used for qualified disability expenses.1 That can help your savings compound, earning returns on your returns.
Maintain your current benefits.
- Balances of $100,000 or less are excluded from your SSI resource limit.
- Only the amount OVER $100,000 is counted against your limit, along with assets held in non-ABLE accounts.
- If your account causes you to exceed the SSI resource limit, then your SSI benefits will be suspended until the account balance no longer exceeds your resource limit.2
- You'll continue to be eligible for Medicaid, regardless of your account balance.3
Open an account in minutes.
Just tell us a little bit about yourself and select your investments. That's it. You can easily access your account at any time, from a PC, tablet, or mobile device. Plus, you can get started with as little as $25.
Make withdrawals easily.
With ABLE Nevada, you can access your savings by:
- going online
- calling us
- mailing a paper form
- debit card or check, when you contribute to the Fifth Third Bank Checking Option
Avoid hidden fees.
The annualized investment costs on assets per investment option range from 0.34% to 0.38%, depending on which investment option(s) you select. Each Account is charged an account maintenance fee of $15 each quarter. This fee can be discounted by $3.75 if you select email delivery for statements and confirmations. The fee can be discounted by another $1.25 if the Account Owner or Authorized Individual is a resident of Nevada.
Who's eligible?
Eligible individuals can open the account for themselves, or an authorized individual can open an account on their behalf. There are a few requirements that individuals with disabilities must meet to be able to have an account.
You're eligible if:
- You're entitled to SSI or SSDI because of your disability; and
- your disability was present before age 26.
You must certify that:
- You have a physical or mental disability that can be expected to last for at least a year or can cause death; or you are blind; or your disability is included on the Social Security Administration's List of Compassionate Allowances Conditions; and
- Such blindness or disability occurred before age 26.
(Proof of eligibility is not required to open an account. However, you should maintain a record of your diagnosis, benefits verification letter or other relevant documents in the event that you are required to prove eligibility at a later time.)
What are Qualified Disability Expenses?
These are ANY expenses that are incurred as a result of living with a disability and are intended to improve your quality of life.
Qualified expenses include, but are not limited to:
- Education
- Health and wellness
- Housing
- Transportation
- Legal fees
- Financial management
- Employment training and support
- Assistive technology
- Personal support services
- Oversight and monitoring
- Funeral and burial expenses
When savings is used for non-qualified expenses:
- The earnings portion of the withdrawal will be treated as income, so it will be taxed at your tax rate, and will be subject to a 10% federal tax penalty and applicable state taxes.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Earnings on non-qualified withdrawals may be subject to federal income tax and a 10% federal penalty tax, as well as applicable state and local income taxes.
- Please see the Plan Disclosure Documents for complete details on SSI suspension and any requirements on when you use the funds, to prevent suspension of benefits.
- Upon the death of the account owner, the state Medicaid agency shall be a creditor for the total medical assistance paid under the State’s Medicaid program on behalf of the account owner after the establishment of the account, upon filing of a claim for payment by such state.
Investment options to fit your needs.

Many families find themselves reacting to a traumatic situation with a loved one instead of having the opportunity to make proactive decisions on their loved ones behalf. When forming this company, it was grounded with the firm conviction that our goal was foremost to play an intricate role in creating a strong, convenient and dependable support system that allows seniors to remain actively independent at home or the home of a loved one. We have developed a distinctive business and service strategy to meet the very needs our parents and seniors face in their elderly years. This strategy includes providing a three pronged service: Adult Day Care Services, Home Based Consulting services and Domestic Concierge Services.

Ashley Manor
Ashley Manor was created to make a difference in the lives of those suffering with memory loss and their families. The Founders started Ashley Manor because they wanted a residential care facility in which they could place their loved ones that dealt with dementia. They were not pleased with the type of care available to their Mom, Dad and Grandfather. However, after an intensive study and collaboration with individuals that had extensive knowledge and experience of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, a dream to create facilities where they could place their loved ones was realized. That place was and is Ashley Manor Care Centers, and those relatives placed, like all other residents, were given the best of care for the rest of their lives.

NEVADA HOMESTEAD - NRS Chapter 115
Dear Homeowner, We hope this brief summary of the Nevada Homestead Law will be of assistance to you. If you need a Homestead Declaration Form, we will be happy to provide one for you. We are not permitted to assist in completing the legal document. However, since we maintain the property records in our office, I have instructed our Customer Service staff to provide you with a copy of your property description. If you have any legal questions regarding this document, please consult your attorney. Sincerely, 115 MICHELE W. SHAFE Clark County Assessor
WHAT ARE THE PROCEDURES FOR RECORDING A DECLARATION OF HOMESTEAD?
- Complete the Homestead Declaration Form. The form must be printed legibly in black ink. Text cannot extend beyond the one inch margins on all sides of the form.
- Sign in the presence of a Notary Public.
- Take the completed document to: Clark County Recorder Main Office: 500 S Grand Central Parkway 2nd Floor P O Box 551510—Las Vegas NV 89155-1510The completed document can also be mailed to the Recorder’s main office. The Recorder’s Office unable to accept mailed documents for recording at the Northwest Office.
- The recording fee is $17.00 and $1.00 per page for each additional page. Acceptable forms of payment are: cash (in person only); money order; credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) or company check with contact information. Credit card orders are not accepted by phone or through the mail.
WHAT DOES THE LAW PROTECT?
When you record a Declaration of Homestead, Nevada law protects the equity in your home up to $550,000 from general creditor claims (unpaid medical bills, bankruptcy, charge card debts, business/personal loans, accidents) but would not preclude a seizure or forced sale of your residence from general creditors if your equity exceeds the $550,000. A creditor may file suit and can record a judgment lien against any real property you own. Recording a Declaration of Homestead protects your principal residence up to the statutory maximum. For example, if the value of your home is $745,000 and you have a first mortgage of $385,000 plus a second mortgage of $10,000, the equity is $350,000.
WHAT IS NOT PROTECTED?
The Homestead Law does not protect you against debts secured by a mortgage or deed of trust, payment of taxes, IRS lien, mechanic’s lien, child support or alimony payments.
THE HOMESTEAD LAW DOES NOT EXEMPT PROPERTY TAX

SRC assists individuals with disabilities by helping them to discover what each person wants for their life, planning and arranging support services to help the person achieve what they want, and regularly monitoring to see if the services satisfy the person.
Services Offered:
- Federal – Home and Community Based Waiver: Nevada’s Waiver for Persons with Mental Retardation and Related Conditions offers home and community-based services to assist eligible recipients who, without services, would require institutional care provided in an Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Mental Retardation (ICF/MR). - Counseling: SRC offers both individual and family counseling.
- Employment and Vocational Services: Designed to help identify the area of employment that best meets the needs of the individual. Options can range from a supervised and assisted work place to employment in a community job with support staff assigned as needed.
- Family Support: Provides assistance to families to help them remain intact. It includes financial assistance for respite care, in-home training, counseling, behavioral consultation and cash assistance to those who qualify.
- Residential Support: Offers a variety of available options to help people make choices on where they want to live. Choices can include living at home with their family, living by themselves or living with roommates. Supports will vary depending on what an individual requests, needs, and can afford.
