ABOUT BLUE KANGAROO
At Blue Kangaroo, our goal is to provide a nurturing, secure environment filled with warmth and encouragement — where your child can learn and develop a positive self-image.
We all know it doesn’t take much to get kids to play. The trick is to getting them to learn in the process! Teaching children at this age is not about giving directions — we just guide their exploration.
Kids are curious like cats, so we satisfy that curiosity with lots of fun and interesting things to do! We stay in small groups during all of our activities, so we can get to know each child.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe that each child is an individual. We are sensitive to each child’s developmental needs and strive to provide an encouraging, well-balanced environment in which the child will develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically.
We believe children deserve the opportunity to excel at their own pace. At Blue Kangaroo Learning Center, we will provide each child with this opportunity.
We believe in providing a safe, clean and healthy physical environment. The classroom is arranged to provide hands-on experiences that will encourage exploration, discovery and learning.
We emphasize activities — in small groups — that will develop a positive self-image.
We believe the strength of our program is based solely on the dedication and motivation of the teaching staff. We work hard to make sure every interaction with each child is a positive, developmentally appropriate experience.
We believe in a positive, active guidance approach that will enable the child to learn self-discipline and self-control. These skills are a crucial part of a child’s development, as they learn to interact with other children as well as adults.
We strive to help children gain a positive self-image and independence, while never forgetting they also need to have fun!
OUR PROGRAMS
Blue Kangaroo Learning Center understands that every age group has its own special requirements. That’s why we’ve developed programs and activities specific to each age group.
Your child will enjoy age-appropriate crafts, games and lesson plans that will help them learn — while having fun at the same time!
Our early childhood curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn through hands-on experiences and cooperative play. The process of learning is more important than the end result.
Activities are designed to emphasize the experiences your child is having, rather than the results of those activities. We give your child the opportunity to experience, explore and discover at his or her own pace.
We provide activities and learning experiences specially designed for your child’s needs, abilities and developmental levels. Detailed information about the week’s activities is always posted in your child’s classroom.
At Blue Kangaroo, we will also introduce your child to the number one friend of growth — exercise! They’ll bounce from session to session, and move their small muscles in one of three age-appropriate playgrounds. These playgrounds are equipped with large play structures, tike paths, bikes and cars to ride around and a large grass area.
Rain or shine, they’ll always get the exercise they need as we also have large indoor motor-skills rooms for everyday play.
When you exercise a child’s mind and body, the result is a happy growing child.
TOUR
Our 14,000 square-foot location was designed with kids in mind. The facilities are fun, spacious and airy — with plenty of natural sunlight and room to play and grow.
The outside play areas are designed for safety, while at the same time encouraging your child to run, play and interact with other kids!
We believe a comfortable environment designed specifically for children encourages learning, fun and friendships. For pictures please feel free to visit: https://www.kangakrew.com/tour
SAFETY OVERVIEW
Security Entry Systems
At Blue Kangaroo, we take the safety of your child very seriously. We have installed state-of-the-art security systems to protect the children in our care.
As a parent, you will gain access into the center through the front of the building by using an access code given to you at the time of enrollment.
When you enter the facility, you will use a touch screen computer to sign your child in or out of the building. This ensures that no unauthorized person can gain access to the facility at any time.
We have also installed “web cams” throughout the center which allow us to monitor the facility.
Sign In / Sign Out procedures
We understand that sometimes, someone other than you must pick up your child. Our formal procedures require prior authorization from you (in writing).
As a parent or guardian, you are the only person who can authorize the center to release your child to another individual. At the time of enrollment, we will ask for two other adults who are authorized to pick up your child in case of an emergency.
Blue Kangaroo Learning Center will always ask for a photo ID before releasing your child. You never have to worry about your child being released to an unauthorized individual.
REMOTE VIDEO
One of the most exciting features we offer at Blue Kangaroo is the ability of parents to check in and see how their child is doing throughout the day.
Nothing is more reassuring than to view your child playing and learning while surrounded by caring adults. Each of our classrooms is equipped with a state-of-the-art video monitoring system.
As a parent, you will be given login and password information. This allows you to sign in to our web site and view you your child throughout the day, whenever they are in the facility.
Your child also has fun knowing that at anytime, you may be peeking in! This gives you a great opportunity at home to talk about the day together.
Of course, this same technology also provides a safer and more secure environment for your child. Because the whole facility is monitored, we know what is going on in every room at all times.
We find that for many of our parents, the ability to share a part of their child’s day is priceless.

We adhere to state regulations regarding immunization records for every child. Current immunization records and well child statements for all ages must be provided when a child is enrolled. We also request that immunization certificates for day care be submitted each time a child receives new immunizations. We also offer an optional hot lunch, which is available each day for $4.Children are also welcome to bring a cold lunch. If your child has special dietary needs or food allergies, just let us know. At Blue Kangaroo, one of our goals is to provide as healthy an environment as possible for your child. As a way to help ensure this, we do not accept children with communicable diseases, diarrhea or a temperature above 101 degrees. This is not only state law, but it’s another step in protecting all our children. If your child were to become ill while attending the center, we notify you as soon as possible to come pick up your child. You can be sure that in the meantime, a caring adult will be there to provide the comfort a sick child needs.
Rest Time:
We make sure all of our children have a rest period each day. Rest is crucial for the health of learning, playing, growing children.
FAQs:
We have strict procedures in place for providing a secure environment for your child. All parents are given an access code, which they enter into a keypad at the front door. There is no access by the public to the rear doors.
What makes Blue Kangaroo different from other learning facilities?
Our experienced, caring staff is one of the big differences. Every teacher and assistant at Blue Kangaroo is dedicated to your child’s health and their ability to learn and grow as an individual. More importantly is our staff’s desire to have your child feel nurtured and cared for.
All activities at Blue Kangaroo are conducted in small groups. By keeping the groups small, our teachers are able to get to know each child, providing encouragement and guidance on an individual basis.
What if there is an emergency and I can't pick up my child?
At the time of enrollment, we ask you for the names of two adults who have permission to pick up your child. You may also authorize another individual to pick up your child, but we must have written permission from you. We always verify by asking for a photo ID.

What to Expect on Your Child's First Day
Your child’s first day of school is an exciting time for the whole family. No matter what age, there are some important things you can do to make this day easier on everyone. It is best to prepare your child ahead of time by talking to them about school and what they can expect.
When you get to school you will be greeted by the teachers and staff. They will show you to your child's classroom where you will find a cubbie with your child's name. Next, they will take you on a short tour of the school before joining your child's classmates. The best thing for parents to do is tell the child that they will pick them up after nap time. Then, give them a big hug and kiss goodbye and walk out of the room. Quick goodbyes are best for the child and are proven to reduce separation anxiety. If your child becomes upset, the teacher will comfort them with hugs and remind them that mommy and daddy will be back soon.
The most important thing to remember is to not show your child that you are nervous about leaving them. Even very young children are attuned to the emotions of their parents. Breathe and relax, preschool is very important and your child is in good hands. Remember, call the school as many times as you wish to check on your child. Today preschool, tomorrow college.
Our online forum offers a place for current and perspective parents to ask questions and read about other family's positive experiences with preschool.

Parent Testimonials
John and Kelly-
The Child Garden is more than a daycare facility, it is a second home. Last year, my husband went on a 14 month deployment to Afghanistan. During his deployment, my initial daycare closed. In a panic, I went to 10 different day cares and then found Miss Sandy. Miss Sandy and her staff took such good care of me and my son. I felt like we were the only family there even though, there are lots of other children and families. I would not have been able to work, take care of my son and get through my husband’s absence if it wasn’t for Child Garden’s compassion. We feel loved here and although I will be excited for my son, it will be a sad day when he graduates kindergarten. We will miss the child garden. Miss Sandy manages to take curriculum to the next level while also giving my son love, support and encouragement. My son is three and knows his colors, numbers, shapes and how to count in Spanish. I love the monthly updates on what he is learning about. We are very happy here.
I cannot say enough positive things about our experience here at the Child Garden. When our children started preschool, it was important for us to have them in a school that provided them a quality education in a supportive environment. Child Garden has not only provided our children with a valuable start to their education, they have done so in a loving and nurturing environment. The Child Garden has supported our belief in teaching our children the value of education early in life. They have done this by having qualified teachers who provide a curriculum that challenges and prepares students for advancement. I know my children will be well prepared for the first grade, thanks to The Child Garden’s focus and dedication to their students.
The Child Garden has facilitated a loving and nurturing environment for our daughter for nearly four years. The teachers are kind, caring individuals with strong principles in early childhood education. Our family has been extremely happy with our experiences at the Child Garden, and we would recommend the school to anyone looking for a wonderful and safe place for their child to learn and grow.
We have one little girl and we were somewhat afraid of her starting school and what that would be like for all of us. From the moment I walked into the school for my first tour, I knew this was where my little girl was going to go to Kindergarten. I saw happy, engaged children in the classroom and I loved it so much, I decided my husband and daughter needed to come check it out right away. They both loved it and I cried both times. Miss Sandy, Miss Hayley and Miss Carmen were so nice. They answered all of our questions, including the ones I didn’t have, and I felt so at ease. Ms. Carmen had my daughter participate in a craft during her tour and she really enjoyed it. My husband and I decided that day that this was the place and we wanted to enroll our daughter in the pre-school class before starting Kindergarten. We are more than happy with our experience here and our daughter comes home filled with information and excitement every day. She loves Ms. Carmen, Ms. Hayley and Ms. Sandy and so do we. The school has become part of our family and we would not have it any other way! We just keep hoping they will consider adding additional grades so our daughter can stay longer. We know she is getting a great education and, most importantly, love, from everyone on staff at The Child Garden.

REVIEWS
Our family absolutely loves Ginny's Child Garden West! The owner and office manager have been in the business for years and truly have a heart for all the children at the center and a strong desire to ensure they get the best care and pre-K curriculum available. You can tell all the teachers at the center care for the children who go there. I like that the center is smaller in size and home like atmosphere. I also like the teaching philosophy of the school. I love that they know all the parents by name and take the time to introduce parents to each other. We began taking our child here 1 year ago and have been extremely happy with our decision. I would not hesitate to recommend this center to anyone. ~ Bryan B. Reno, NV
My Daughter Started Ginny's at 18mo old in 2012. In that time we had numerous issues with behavior that we thought was her having a hard time getting use to being around other children and a change of pace ( this being her first day care). Once she was 2 and potty trained she then was moved in the upstairs room were some of the behavior stopped and became more normal discipline issues. After a while the behavior issues came back and even stronger. I had concerns with things I was told by a teacher that works there on how sometimes the staff would handle issues with my daughter. By now my 3 year old was out of control only at school with a few incidents at home. I asked for some examples from school that where written down and was horrified. To read of the disciplinary procedures that they had in place for my child and my child only. Because of her history and tantrums they had a negative attitude towards her. Only making the statements made by a staff member true. Instead of dealing with my child and following through with the same outline that ALL the other children are held to. One of the incidents they pulled her out of line for not keeping her hands to herself and counted to 3 only to return her to the line. I asked what would be the procedure for another child, only to be informed another child for the same issue would of had a moment of reflection for 3 minutes. It went as far as one incident my child wouldn't share the sand box and because they didn't want to deal with her they made all the other children leave the sand box and left her to play alone. Not only giving her what she wanted but also making it clear to the other children that my child doesn't have to follow the rules. With my child telling me that no one likes her and she doesn't have friends this all made since. Of course the kids are different towards her because she isn't disciplined like them. I pulled her immediately after reading this and spending years thinking my child was difficult or had issues. At one point Ginny herself even told me any other "TYPICAL" 3 year old does what they are directed and listens and stays in time out as my child refuses. When I stated the instruction that her therapist gave or at least to keep her in time out I was told they don't have the time. Well this might be harsh but I pay for my child to attend a facility so that they have the time for her. After I pulled my child out I placed her in NOAH'S ARK. Where she has flourishes and shines. Not once have we had an incident in the 2 months she has been attending. Even a staff member that worked at Ginny's at the time when my 3 year old was there is now at Noah's Ark and has reflected how my daughter would act at Ginny's and how much she has improved. Even my daughter makes comments like "I have to listen at my new school". I believe this is because at Noah's Ark no matter the child all the children are held to the same standard and when I asked about their disciplinary procedures I was informed all that they have is time. In the few months my eldest has been there she has jumped up to the preschool class because of her skills and the need she has to be challenged.
I have 2 daughters and my youngest at 2 years old has Downs syndrome. For me to hear any other "Typical" child enraged me. Neither one of my children should receive special treatment because of inappropriate behavior due to being different in any way. My eldest is "typical" and both of my children should be held accountable just like any other child for their actions. My eldest is very smart and the fact that if she fought long enough and hard enough that she could do whatever she wanted says allot about a place that would allow her to act that way. I say ALLOW because I have my daughter evenings and weekends. When I have her I hear how polite and smart she is. Daycare has her 5 days a week and if she acts that way under their care then they allow her to do so.
When I expressed concern on lack of activities or teachers treating her differently or the level of education for the staff I have never experienced a place of business turn everything personal and about them instead of having concern on a customers question of level of service they are receiving.
Ginny's Child Garden West is a decent BABYSITTER. But if you are a full time working parent and you count and depend on the facility you leave your children with to help you raise the best person your child can be then I would strongly suggest to look else were. Basically they made a monster because of their lack of follow through and expected me to clean up the mess because I'm the parent. I cleaned it up alright by finding a Day Care that cares as much as I do for my children. ~Christine R. Reno NV
I toured the center and immediately felt welcome and loved. Ginny is a truly nurturing soul and her staff is the best. The center is clean the age groups are broken up very well and to top it off the ratios are very low. After touring 6 other facilities my heart was still at Ginny's. I am so excited for my son to start there in august! ~ Sahmi F. Reno, NV

CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF NORTHERN NEVADA’S ST. VINCENT’S DINING ROOM PROGRAM
Established in 1961, the St. Vincent’s Dining Room of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada feeds nutritious meals to the poor, the homeless, and under-served men, women, and children six days a week (including holidays) in a clean and safe environment. Since our beginning, we have served more than 3 million free meals.
In 2015, we fed an average of 550 people per day, and served more than 156,000 meals. Looking back to 2008, this number was in the low 400s. Although both of these are large numbers, there is a fluctuation in attendance based on the time of the week and the time of the month. Early in the week, we experience far fewer people dining with us than we do later in the week. We also see this pattern on a monthly basis, as we feed many more people at the end of the month than we do earlier in the month. Based on our observations and discussions with the people who share a meal with us, we have found that about half of the people who regularly participate in our free meals have some rather minimal income. For example, many of these people get paid weekly, and when their money runs out (usually at the end of the week), they bring their families to the St. Vincent’s Dining Room rather than going hungry.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF NORTHERN NEVADA AND WASHOE COUNTY SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM: A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP
In an effort to provide quality service and keep up with a local increase in the need for senior meal services, Washoe County and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada are proud to offer the collaborative Senior Nutrition Program, to include both the congregate meal and home-delivered Meals on Wheels programs. By combining efforts, we hope to reduce meal production costs and provide more meals to homebound residents and senior citizens. This partnership allows the two groups to serve an estimated 400,000 meals per year to local seniors.
SENIOR NUTRITION SERVICES
Congregate Meal Program: Lunch in a group setting; socialize with other participants while enjoying a healthy meal. The program provides one meal per day to seniors 60+ and qualified individuals (spouse of a senior, disabled living at a nutrition site, or disabled dependent on a senior). A hot meal or fresh salad is provided Monday through Friday at ten senior meal locations. Monthly menus are available online or at each meal site location. With the exception of the Washoe County Senior Center, reservations must be made by 9:00 AM on the desired day. Individuals wishing to enjoy a fresh salad in place of a hot meal are required to sign up in person or by phone at the desired meal location by 9:00 AM that day.
Home Delivered Meals: Provides delivery of meals to homebound seniors 60+ who are unable to participate in the Washoe County Senior Services Congregate Meal program due to an illness or a disability. Meals provided are in accordance with established dietary guidelines and food safety standards. The suggested voluntary contribution is $2 per meal. Self addressed stamped envelopes are provided by the meal delivery drivers for contributions to be mailed to Washoe County Senior Services.
For more information about this public-private collaboration, or to find out how to refer a senior for this program, please visit the Washoe County Senior Nutrition Programs website .

CROSSROADS HOUSING PROGRAM OVERVIEW
A partnership with Washoe County Social Services and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office that provides housing and supportive living arrangements for men and women battling addiction and transitioning out of homelessness. Drug and alcohol counseling is offered to all residents.
A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN WASHOE COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES AND CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF NORTHERN NEVADA.
The Crossroads Program is a collaboration between Washoe County Social Services (WCSS) and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada that began in January of 2011. The program provides a supportive living arrangement for men and women transitioning out of homelessness. Clients in the program are given a safe and caring environment to live in, along with wraparound social services including drug and alcohol counseling, employment support, volunteer/work opportunities, and other tools to help them establish a new, more productive path in life.
The goal of Crossroads is to prevent relapses into homelessness and substance abuse, and to reduce public costs associated with jail, hospital and other emergency services. The program has shown tremendous success with many community partners, and Washoe County estimates that Crossroads is saving the community about $12 million per year.
- Average length of stay at Crossroads – 192 days
- 1,700 clients served since inception in 2011
- 96% of residents volunteer in the community
- 25% of residents have been reunited with their families
- 100% of program participants are clean, sober and working toward their personal goals
Clients at Crossroads are wrapped in social services as they continue their regular treatment programs. They are surrounded by a live-in network which will aim to help them establish healthy relationships, a sense of community, and improved life and social skills. We believe Crossroads is a benchmark program that has the potential for expansion and replication both locally and statewide.

Testimonials
“I called Joanna last minute when we had family in town and needed someone to watch our two little ones while we went out wine tasting. We are new to town so we had no idea where to go to find a reliable person to trust. She got back to us right away and placed us with Marlena, who was wonderful! Our kids immediately warmed up to her as if they’ve known her for years.” ~ Emily M.
“Thoroughly professional and perfect in every way, from clarity about how the service works to booking, payment and the babysitter we were assigned. Most important was the sitter, of course, and she was superb. We wanted to bring her home with us. The kids loved her, she was clearly capable, and she even cleaned up our rental house a bit. That’s unheard of!”~Susie S.
“Sofia showed up right on time and got down on the floor and our little one immediately took to her, crawled right over to her and gave her a big smile. Sofia is very sweet and asked lots of questions to make sure she was doing things the way we wanted. She even took family pictures of us. I definitely recommend using Joanna’s Nannies and Sofia. We will happily use them again.”~Kristin D.

The Lion & Lamb Christian School is a ministry of Grace Church that opened its doors in January of 1996. We affirm the commandment of Christ: “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14
We are a non-profit, 12-month preschool and kindergarten with appropriate developmental programs for children aged three to six. Our school provides children a Bible-centered Christian education of the highest quality by creating an atmosphere where children feel loved, nurtured and secure.
OUR PRINCIPLES
Education: We provide a well-rounded curriculum that is in accordance with Nevada Pre-K Standards. We build a strong foundation for academic success by catering to all learning styles, helping each individual child grow intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Biblical stories and principles are incorporated into our curriculum to develop Christian standards and values. All of our teachers meet Washoe County Social Services and Nevada State Department of Education requirements for employment.
Play: We believe socialization is an important aspect of a child’s education. Play stimulates imagination, creates opportunities for positive interaction, and is essential to providing a vivid and vital childhood. We focus on the process of play, not the product.
Safety: The safety of your children is absolutely a top priority of all our teachers and staff. All of our staff members are certified in CPR and First Aid. Maintaining a secure environment for our students is paramount.

Our approach to learning makes all the difference, and the research shows it!
Little minds are wide open and ready to learn, and we have a unique way of encouraging children to become life-long learners. A recent study of 5000 KinderCare children using the nationally-recognized BRIGANCE® Early Childhood Screens III found that our students are exceeding expectations on their assessments.
Infants through prekindergartners were assessed on developmental skills that are known predictors of later success in school and beyond, including:
- Language and Literacy Development
- Executive Function
- Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development and Wellness
- Cognitive Development
- Creative Expressions
Inclusion Philosophy
KinderCare welcomes children of all abilities, with the commitment to provide quality care and education to each child. We believe every child is a unique individual with varying needs, and we welcome the diversity that brings to our centers. All children and families deserve to be full members of their communities, to have the opportunity for development and learning, and to experience a sense of belonging.
KinderCare supports inclusion by providing access to our world-class curriculum programs, embracing inclusive participation in our programs, and offering support to our educators through training and consultation by our Education and Inclusion Services teams. Inclusion is not just a strategy for helping certain children overcome challenges; inclusion is a way of life at KinderCare.

Moments in Your Preschooler's Day
Each day at our centers preschoolers explore science experiments, create artwork, play characters and movement games. In this way they learn following directions and other key skills for learning success.

KinderCare Early Foundations® Transitional Kindergarten
A program for children who missed the kindergarten cutoff date.
If your child completed or mastered prekindergarten but did not meet the cutoff date for kindergarten, this is the right choice for you. Enhanced whole-group activities and project-related learning activities help engage children in key competency areas such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
Focus areas
Project-related learning activities in this program include an enhanced focus on higher-level skills from the developmental domains of Language and Literacy Development, Executive Function, and Social and Emotional Development. In each project-related learning phase, children are engaged in key competencies that ensure their success in kindergarten and beyond, such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Project-related learning activities also align to higher-level skills from the other developmental domains represented in the Prekindergarten program.
Project journals
Your child will make writing and math journals, plus work with preprinted, project-specific journals that encourage skill development through writing, drawing and other visual representations such as photographs.

A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in taxes owed. Some credits are refundable – taxes can be reduced to the point that a taxpayer receives a refund instead of paying taxes. A tax credit is even more valuable to families than a tax deduction.
Under current federal law, eligible families can claim child care tax credits* up to:
- $2,100 from the federal Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (up to $1,050 for each of your first two children; the exact amount depends on your income and actual child care expenses);
- $1,000 per child from the federal Child Tax Credit; and
- $5,657 from the federal Earned Income Tax Credit. (The exact amount depends on your income)

- Tax Information for Parents:
* Credit amounts may change from year-to-year, are usually dependent on total family income and size, and may be subject to maximum income or child care spending limitations. Consult your tax advisor, the IRS, and state revenue officials to confirm your eligibility.

Reviews
I give this business my heartiest recommendation. My wife and I were going stir crazy taking care of 5-month old twin boys. We decided we wanted to take a spur-of-the moment, overnight trip to Reno, but we needed to secure babysitting. We were nervous, because this would be the first time that we had ever left our children with anyone other than a member of our own family. We found Nanny Services of Nevada on the internet, and I left email and phone messages for the owner, Julie, late Tuesday night. We needed babysitting a mere two days later, on Thursday evening.
Julie called me back the next day and we made our arrangements over the phone. She emailed a contract to me, but on Thursday, she was not certain whether I had received the contract or not. She really impressed me by going the extra mile and driving down to my hotel and dropping off a hard copy of the contract at the front desk. I had a chance to meet her, and she's friendly and professional with three sons of her own. She told me that she was going to make sure that -- no matter what -- my wife and I were going to have our night out on the town. And she really delivered on her promise.
We were very pleased with Tara, the babysitter that Julie secured for us. The babies seemed well cared for, and Tara even washed all of the baby bottles before she left. What a nice touch! And we thought that both the hourly rate and the agency fee were quite reasonable.
In an age of incompetence in customer service, Nanny Services of Nevada is an example of how to do it right. Quite literally, this trip would not have happened were it not for them. I would definitely use them again, and I'm really happy to know that they now operate in Las Vegas as well.

Small Strides

Welcome to Small Strides
Small Strides is a privately owned Preschool and Infant Toddler Nursery. At Small Strides we believe that small steps lead to big accomplishments!! We want your child to have the best learning experience possible. We focus our attention on learning and education, at the same time providing a fun, encouraging, and safe environment. From books and blocks to music and toys, your child will never lack opportunities to explore, learn and play. Our six different classrooms each provide a safe, well-rounded environment for children ages 6 weeks through 6 years. We understand the importance of communication and relationship building during the early years. A child's most important and essential learning experiences occur before the age of five. That is why at Small Strides, we provide children with lots of love and attention but also focus on fun learning activities. Your child will learn the importance of interacting with other children, as well as being an individual. Each classroom provides a unique program, centered on educational development. At the same time we incorporate fun activities to help your child grow both physically and emotionally. We're located in a quiet cul-de-sac to offer the safest accommodations for your little ones. Children can enjoy two playgrounds, one for older children and one for infants.
Our staff interacts and nurtures your child each and every day. They will lead your child through daily activities and provide the love and support your child needs to reach their goals. Their enthusiasm and support will help challenge your child and foster growth. Our class sizes are small so each child receives one-on-one teacher interaction. Our owner prides herself on taking a hands-on approach and she takes a genuine interest in each family and your goals for your child.
Welcome to Small Strides! We look forward to sharing in your child's accomplishments!
The Small Strides Philosophy
At Small Strides we recognize the value of every child. We know that the smallest steps lead to the biggest accomplishments. Our goal is to provide quality care and education that benefits the child, parents, and community alike.
The Small Strides philosophy is based on the idea that children learn best through experience and play. Play gives children a natural environment in which they can manipulate objects and their surroundings and make choices that are interesting to them. Play stimulates a child's curiosity and gives a child the opportunity to explore, experience, and succeed. At Small Strides, we believe the learning environment should allow children to develop at their own pace in a loving, happy environment that offers creativity and intellectual inspiration while giving a child the opportunity to develop all aspects of themselves physically, intellectually, creatively socially, and emotionally. Our ultimate goal is to give children a sense of belonging while offering age-appropriate activities and curriculum. We believe the early childhood environment needs to be an environment full of trust and respect so that a child will feel welcome and safe. We believe the most important thing a child can gain from a preschool and childcare setting is to be happy and confident.
Safety
Safety is of the utmost importance to us at Small Strides. In addition to providing your child with a safe classroom environment, we also want to ensure your child's safety throughout the center at all times. All parents must enter and exit through the main doors in the front of the building. Once inside, parents and visitors must check-in at the front desk where someone is always monitoring who walks through the door.
Sign-In/Out Procedures
Parents must check their children in through a touch screen monitor located in the front office and also in their child's classroom on a daily sign-in and sign-out sheet.
Upon registering we ask for two emergency contacts along with the names of any person who is allowed to pick up your child. When picking up your child, authorized people will have to show proper photo identification in order for your child to be released to them. We ask that you please let us know in advance if you are planning on having someone other than yourself pick up your child. At Small Strides we are dedicated to making sure your child is safe each and every day.
Our Teachers
Our teachers at Small Strides are loving and caring individuals, dedicated to helping your child learn and grow. Our Programs
Infants
We design our curriculums around each age group and their unique learning abilities. Our Infant program allows your children to interact with other children and provides them with experiences to progress their development. There are positive interactions that take place between our teachers and your child, allowing your child to feel loved and supported. Our warm and nurturing environment provides a fun atmosphere while enhancing your child's cognitive development.
Toddlers
One of the most exciting experiences in your child's life is when they take their first steps. They're learning security and confidence in themselves. These are their first steps towards big accomplishments and we are excited to be a part of those first steps. Our Toddler program creates a nurturing environment for your child and focuses on sensory experiences. Our teachers will help develop your child's self-esteem and confidence with each new step, showing them that if they fall, they get right back up!
Preschool
There is no such thing as Terrible Twos at Small Strides; we believe in Terrific Twos! At two years old children begin to understand group play and interaction. They become better communicators and learn to express themselves through words. Your two year old will learn to interact through words and gestures, which aids in their social skill development.
Pre-K
As your child progresses in his/her learning, they achieve new capacities for growth! Our preschool curriculum introduces your child to math and science in a way that is easy for them to understand. Our teachers are eager to support your child and provide them with the nurturing and one-on-one attention they need at this critical time. They’ll have more group interaction and have opportunities to make friends. Our program is geared towards learning but at the same time, provides a fun, supportive, and safe environment for your child. We offer fun and exciting experiences for your child to explore and to be creative.

- Wow! I am so happy and so pleased with our experience thus far. They provide snacks for my child. They are very kind to my child. They teach the kids, and have all kinds of wonderful programs. There was a big Halloween bash with a jump house and games. There were professional pictures this week. They had a Thanksgiving lunch last month and each child got to participate. They do a monthly "date night" for parents. They have handouts each month to fill you in on all the things going on that month. They use the scholastic book club where you can order kids' books for really cheap.
The other day, my three year old came out of his room in a red shirt and said, "Mom is this rojo?"
I really like the teachers and all the staff. They are just really nice and I am super comfortable with the way they run things - all day. Oh one more thing. I like the schedule; it is very accommodating.~ Kyrie F. Sparks, NV
- I am very pleased with Small Strides. I take my 3 years old and my newborn there. Out of the other 5 facilities my husband and I checked out this was the only place that allowed me to pack items that contained nuts in my child's lunch aka peanut butter jelly sandwiches. I like that the owner greats you at the door everyday you drop your kids off. I like that they email a news letter every month to keep busy parents involved. They have a lot of fun activity days where the kids can dress up and have a little more fun. I like that my daughter gets to play outside everyday and is not cooped up inside all day. I would recommend Small Strides to anyone looking for a reliable place to take your kids/babies. ~ Naomi C. Reno, NV
- My daughter started attended Small Strides when she was 18 months old back in 2011. And she was there until she started kindergarten last year. And we were always very pleased. I was able to pack a lunch for her with nutritious food, knowing that they will make sure that my daughter will eat it, she is a picky eater. And the most important is that they truly care for the well being of the kids. It was very comforting for me that my daughter was always happy when I drop her out in the mornings. We also made some great friends with the families of the other kids. And the curriculum that Mrs Ryan have is great too, being in a preschool where they learned made a big difference for my daughter in kindergarten. I will recommend Small Strides to anyone who is looking for a place with an integral approach of teaching, they care about the kids emotional growth as much as their academic growth. Another plus for us was that option to pay with credit card. ~ Nancy G. Reno, NV
- I love Ryan and the staff. My daughter has been going for a year. All the staff have gone above and beyond. I love that my daughter greets all her teacher with big hugs. I know that she loves all of the staff and they love her! Big Big thanks to the Small Strides school! Love, Ronni. ~ Carrie V. Reno, NV
- My advise is to keep looking. My son was enrolled there for 6 months, it was a regretful experience. He's now happy to be back at his original daycare, Kids R Kids. I HIGHLY recommend you go there, it's just right down the street. The only reason I moved him was because of a conflict I was having with another mother after she hit my car. Thank God, I came to my senses!
I'll try to keep this short. Small Strides is VERY cramped, there is not much room for the kids to run around & play. A few of the class rooms are a little more spacious, but that wasn't the case for my son.
Be prepared to make all the lunches, have your child come home ABSOLUTELY filthy, to the point you have to change their entire outfit just to run to the store. It's bad! It's not my son or his age either. I have no problems with that at all now. They don't listen to your concerns, they just carry on w/ their way of doing things & give you a million excuses. They allowed my 16 month old son (at the time) to have 4 hour naps on a daily basis & he was only there 6-7 hours daily. So needless to say, he had problems sleeping at night. He was WAY to old for the room they kept him in. The age limit maxed out @ 15 months then he was to move to the other class room w/ his age group. He was in the baby room from 15 months to 21 months, till I pulled him out!!! There is nothing wrong w/ his development. He's developing perfectly & is having no problems "adjusting". The problem wasn't my son, it was a worker named Crystal whom I had an AWFUL experience with. From day one she ignored me, was extremely impersonal, not to mention my son HATED to be alone with her. Red flags!!! My son is so mellow and easy going. As a new parent coming in she could've attempted the "wow" factor. She is the reason my son never advanced and I'm SO mad at her for that!!! The original excuse for putting him back in the baby room was because he wasn't walking yet. I understand that. 3 weeks later he was walking & should have moved up!
There are so many other minor dislikes, but that was the final straw for me. Also, be prepared to supply tons and tons of wipes. They don't use towels, apparently or hand soap. They use your wipes to wipe their hands off before & after the diaper change, that's 4-5 wipes for one change. Then they use them to wipe down tables, high chairs, etc. I've seen them do it & I asked about it. Several parents have complained.
Finally, in the baby room, there is a VERY small room w/ a huge metal door that they call the sleeping room. I call it the closet. It has all the cribs in it, they blast lullaby music or white noise, shut the sound proof door & call it nap time. Remember the 4 hour naps? These little angels aren't asleep majority of the time. They look frightened and restless and like they want out! I've addressed it several times. I was told everything from, "oh, they just woke up" to "their parents want them trained to be in a crib & they just don't like it , they're adjusting." Whatever! Some of them would scream and scream, it'd break your heart. No wonder my son cried and cried during drop off.
The staff over all seems very nice and knowledgeable. Just be aware that many of these young ladies are not mothers themselves and I feel they have a hard time really relating. Ryan is a first time owner, not a mother herself. I think she does have a passion for children, she just needs more hands on experience. ~ Susan V. Reno,NV

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
FUN WHILE LEARNING
Our approach is based on widely accepted research that indicates that children experience the deepest, most genuine learning when they are having fun. Highly trained teachers foster the cognitive and social development of each child by lovingly guiding the class through play-based activities.
INDIVIDUALIZED DEVELOPMENT
Our play-based F.L.EX.® Learning Program (Fun Learning Experience) offers child-focused, teacher-led lessons that are tailored to the children’s interests. If a teacher is giving a lesson on the solar system but the children are captivated by the rain outside, the teacher may change the lesson to focus on the weather.
EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Daily enrichment programs foster your child’s self-esteem and set the foundation for a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle. These programs may include baby sign language, yoga, music and languages such as Spanish and Mandarin.
SPECIALLY TRAINED TEACHERS
Diligent hiring practices ensure that the best people work at The Goddard School, and Goddard School teachers receive ongoing professional development and accredited training through Goddard Systems University. Our teachers use proven, play-based methods to nurture healthy development in children and encourage a lifelong love of learning.
THE SCIENCE OF PLAY
Young children who learn through play are more capable of making their own decisions, advocating for themselves and using creativity to solve problems as they grow,” adds Dr. Pruett. During play, children link old thoughts with new, build new experiences and access knowledge.
OUR CURRICULUM
F.L.EX. LEARNING PROGRAM
Based on academic research that states children experience the deepest, most genuine learning when they are having fun, The Goddard School’s F.L.EX. Learning Program (Fun Learning Experience) provides the best foundation for your child’s social and academic development. The program is designed to provide a well-rounded experience and ensure children become confident, joyful and fully prepared students. Four pillars support each activity.
DEVELOPMENTAL GUIDELINES
To set the stage for each child’s individual achievements, trained teachers observe and assess a child's developmental accomplishments. These guidelines are based on research on how children learn best, state and national standards and results from national learning assessments.
CHILD-CENTERED LESSON PLANS
Goddard School teachers plan fun, engaging activities that build upon what children can do, encouraging exploration and fostering self-esteem. We intentionally guide and extend a child's play to ensure children achieve key developmental milestones across these seven learning domains:
- Personal and social development
- Language and literacy
- Mathematical thinking
- Scientific thinking and technology
- Social studies
- Creative expression
- Physical development
CREATIVE & FUN LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Making learning fun is at the core of our program. Each day, highly trained teachers guide the children as they select activities and materials to explore and use creatively. Children will often want to learn more after engaging in playful, hands-on activities because they had fun.
CHILD-CENTERED TEACHABLE MOMENTS
Goddard School teachers also spontaneously adapt their lesson plans to include unique teachable moments that are inspired by the children’s interests. For example, if the lesson is on the solar system but the children are captivated by the rain falling outside, the teacher adjusts the lesson to focus on weather.
EVIDENCE-BASED APPROACH
Our AdvancED- and Middle States-accredited program is based on the fact that your child has an individual learning style. The Goddard School’s professional teachers understand this, and they provide the nurturing and learning your child wants and needs to succeed.
PARTNERSHIP FOR 21ST CENTURY LEARNING
The Goddard School’s relationship with the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) puts us in the middle of the conversation about the skills our children need now and will need in the future.
P21 emphasizes the importance of life and career skills, learning and innovation skills and information, media and technology skills. P21 also promotes core subject material and 21st century themes, such as global awareness and financial, civic, health and environmental literacy. P21 believes that introducing children to the 4Cs (communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking) early in life allows them to become well-rounded individuals.
Partnering with this organization and introducing these themes and skills alongside the STEAM learning subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) provides Goddard School students with the foundation for success in school and in life.
OUTCOMES
CHILDREN’S PROGRESS ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT
Results of a recent review by Children’s Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA) show that the longer children are enrolled at a Goddard School, the better they become at learning. They also show that the longer children are enrolled at a Goddard School, the higher they score on mathematics and literacy assessments. According to the results, Goddard School students outperform non-Goddard students. A Goddard School student is 45% more likely to perform above his or her grade level than a non-Goddard peer.
WHAT IS CPAA?
CPAA is an early childhood assessment system that helps teachers create lessons that meet the needs of each child. This stress-free and developmentally appropriate program measures each student's comfort level with major early literacy and mathematics concepts. CPAA grew out of decades of research at Columbia University and is used by schools, school districts and state agencies nationwide.
DUAL MANAGEMENT
Education directors help prepare children for success in school and in life. They ensure that highly trained teachers lovingly guide children to help them learn through play. They also coach Goddard School teachers on health and safety standards, curriculum requirements, developmental guidelines and enrichment programs.
