Blue Kangaroo Learning Center
ABOUT BLUE KANGAROO
At Blue Kangaroo, our goal is to provide a nurturing, secure environment filled with warmth and encouragement — where your child can learn and develop a positive self-image.
We all know it doesn’t take much to get kids to play. The trick is to getting them to learn in the process! Teaching children at this age is not about giving directions — we just guide their exploration.
Kids are curious like cats, so we satisfy that curiosity with lots of fun and interesting things to do! We stay in small groups during all of our activities, so we can get to know each child.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe that each child is an individual. We are sensitive to each child’s developmental needs and strive to provide an encouraging, well-balanced environment in which the child will develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically.
We believe children deserve the opportunity to excel at their own pace. At Blue Kangaroo Learning Center, we will provide each child with this opportunity.
We believe in providing a safe, clean and healthy physical environment. The classroom is arranged to provide hands-on experiences that will encourage exploration, discovery and learning.
We emphasize activities — in small groups — that will develop a positive self-image.
We believe the strength of our program is based solely on the dedication and motivation of the teaching staff. We work hard to make sure every interaction with each child is a positive, developmentally appropriate experience.
We believe in a positive, active guidance approach that will enable the child to learn self-discipline and self-control. These skills are a crucial part of a child’s development, as they learn to interact with other children as well as adults.
We strive to help children gain a positive self-image and independence, while never forgetting they also need to have fun!
OUR PROGRAMS
Blue Kangaroo Learning Center understands that every age group has its own special requirements. That’s why we’ve developed programs and activities specific to each age group.
Your child will enjoy age-appropriate crafts, games and lesson plans that will help them learn — while having fun at the same time!
Our early childhood curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn through hands-on experiences and cooperative play. The process of learning is more important than the end result.
Activities are designed to emphasize the experiences your child is having, rather than the results of those activities. We give your child the opportunity to experience, explore and discover at his or her own pace.
We provide activities and learning experiences specially designed for your child’s needs, abilities and developmental levels. Detailed information about the week’s activities is always posted in your child’s classroom.
At Blue Kangaroo, we will also introduce your child to the number one friend of growth — exercise! They’ll bounce from session to session, and move their small muscles in one of three age-appropriate playgrounds. These playgrounds are equipped with large play structures, tike paths, bikes and cars to ride around and a large grass area.
Rain or shine, they’ll always get the exercise they need as we also have large indoor motor-skills rooms for everyday play.
When you exercise a child’s mind and body, the result is a happy growing child.
TOUR
Our 14,000 square-foot location was designed with kids in mind. The facilities are fun, spacious and airy — with plenty of natural sunlight and room to play and grow.
The outside play areas are designed for safety, while at the same time encouraging your child to run, play and interact with other kids!
We believe a comfortable environment designed specifically for children encourages learning, fun and friendships. For pictures please feel free to visit: https://www.kangakrew.com/tour
SAFETY OVERVIEW
Security Entry Systems
At Blue Kangaroo, we take the safety of your child very seriously. We have installed state-of-the-art security systems to protect the children in our care.
As a parent, you will gain access into the center through the front of the building by using an access code given to you at the time of enrollment.
When you enter the facility, you will use a touch screen computer to sign your child in or out of the building. This ensures that no unauthorized person can gain access to the facility at any time.
We have also installed “web cams” throughout the center which allow us to monitor the facility.
Sign In / Sign Out procedures
We understand that sometimes, someone other than you must pick up your child. Our formal procedures require prior authorization from you (in writing).
As a parent or guardian, you are the only person who can authorize the center to release your child to another individual. At the time of enrollment, we will ask for two other adults who are authorized to pick up your child in case of an emergency.
Blue Kangaroo Learning Center will always ask for a photo ID before releasing your child. You never have to worry about your child being released to an unauthorized individual.
REMOTE VIDEO
One of the most exciting features we offer at Blue Kangaroo is the ability of parents to check in and see how their child is doing throughout the day.
Nothing is more reassuring than to view your child playing and learning while surrounded by caring adults. Each of our classrooms is equipped with a state-of-the-art video monitoring system.
As a parent, you will be given login and password information. This allows you to sign in to our web site and view you your child throughout the day, whenever they are in the facility.
Your child also has fun knowing that at anytime, you may be peeking in! This gives you a great opportunity at home to talk about the day together.
Of course, this same technology also provides a safer and more secure environment for your child. Because the whole facility is monitored, we know what is going on in every room at all times.
We find that for many of our parents, the ability to share a part of their child’s day is priceless.
HEALTH INFORMATION
Medical Requirements:
We adhere to state regulations regarding immunization records for every child. Current immunization records and well child statements for all ages must be provided when a child is enrolled. We also request that immunization certificates for day care be submitted each time a child receives new immunizations. We will even let you know when immunizations are due. By adhering to these standards, we are doing everything possible to ensure the health of your child and others.
Nutrition Program:
All snacks and meals at Blue Kangaroo are designed to meet the daily nutritional needs of each child — as well as taste good! We provide nutritional snacks in the morning and afternoon.Although we do not serve breakfast, you are welcome to bring in a single serving of breakfast to be served with juice in the morning. We also offer an optional hot lunch, which is available each day for $4.Children are also welcome to bring a cold lunch. If your child has special dietary needs or food allergies, just let us know. We serve all meals in the classroom, and our teachers eat with the children to promote and stimulate conversations and self-help skills.
Illness:
At Blue Kangaroo, one of our goals is to provide as healthy an environment as possible for your child. As a way to help ensure this, we do not accept children with communicable diseases, diarrhea or a temperature above 101 degrees. This is not only state law, but it’s another step in protecting all our children. If your child were to become ill while attending the center, we notify you as soon as possible to come pick up your child. You can be sure that in the meantime, a caring adult will be there to provide the comfort a sick child needs.
Rest Time:
We make sure all of our children have a rest period each day. Rest is crucial for the health of learning, playing, growing children.
FAQs:
We have strict procedures in place for providing a secure environment for your child. All parents are given an access code, which they enter into a keypad at the front door. There is no access by the public to the rear doors.
What makes Blue Kangaroo different from other learning facilities?
Our experienced, caring staff is one of the big differences. Every teacher and assistant at Blue Kangaroo is dedicated to your child’s health and their ability to learn and grow as an individual. More importantly is our staff’s desire to have your child feel nurtured and cared for.
All activities at Blue Kangaroo are conducted in small groups. By keeping the groups small, our teachers are able to get to know each child, providing encouragement and guidance on an individual basis.
What if there is an emergency and I can't pick up my child?
At the time of enrollment, we ask you for the names of two adults who have permission to pick up your child. You may also authorize another individual to pick up your child, but we must have written permission from you. We always verify by asking for a photo ID.

Brookfield School Little Campus
PHILOSOPHY & HISTORY
Brookfield School provides a private academic setting where young people prosper in thought and imagination. Students learn competence and character as individuals as well as members of a school community. Brookfield is committed to the overall development of each child. We provide strong academic instruction in the basic skills as well as a wide variety of cultural and aesthetic experiences. Because there are great differences among children of the same age we use factors other than chronological age to create a strong planning program in each classroom in our Pre-school, Middle and Elementary Schools. Meeting high level intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs of young people is important to student success.
OUR HISTORY
Brookfield School was founded in Sacramento in 1962 and opened in Reno, Nevada in 1978 and both locations continue to serve the educational needs of the community. Brookfield School- Reno is an independent, co-educational day school for 250 students in preschool through eighth grade. Brookfield School and parents have a shared vision of an academically rich and rigorous, non-denominational educational program. We have a pre-school campus to serve our younger students. The Little Campus (TLC) will introduce two to five year olds to a more exciting, challenging, and fun-filled day. It is a step above the typical preschool curriculum.
SCHOOL PROFILE
Brookfield School has been educating children since 1964. We are very proud of our school and would like to extend a personal invitation for you and your child to come and learn with us. Children with developed solid thinking skills and a love of learning achieve remarkable academic results. Brookfield School’s mission is to develop the whole child, fostering his/her academic, communication, and interpersonal skills. Students become excited, lifelong learners, confident thinkers, and strong communicators. Our students develop solid thinking skills and achieve remarkable academic results. Most noticeably, our math and reading achievement scores are in the top 15% in the nation.
Our successful approach uses a well-rounded traditional curriculum, safe and small class sizes, a nurturing environment, and certified classroom teachers. We have an exceptionally low student-to- teacher ratio. Our programs are offered for children in preschool through eighth grade. Early mastery of reading and mathematic fluency enables older children to make swift progression into more advanced subjects and at a faster rate.

Services
Adoption/Pregnancy
Catholic Charities Adoption Services has been providing adoption services since 1941. Through ethics and leadership, Adoption Services
compassionately serves children throughout their lives by guiding, educating and empowering birth families, adoptive families and the community.
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada has provided adoption services since 1941 and facilitates approximately 20-25 adoption plans each year. We are here to assist anyone considering adoption for their child to learn more about the adoption process and if this will be the right choice for you. We recognize this can be a difficult time and are here to offer support and guidance as you explore your options. Catholic Charities prides ourselves in our ethical, caring services we provide to all clients. We believe making an adoption plan for child is a very loving and selfless decision.
In the state of Nevada, parents cannot sign any paperwork consenting to an adoption before their child is at least 72 hours old. This means all work done during the pregnancy and immediately following the birth of the child is part of the planning process and is not legally binding. Prior to signing consent paperwork, a birthparent may choose to parent their child at any time.
Catholic Charities offers individualized, custom adoption plans. These plans are created by birth parents with the assistance of an adoption social worker. We also offer a monthly support group for birth parents as well as expectant parents considering adoption for their child. We have three full-time social workers, one of which is dedicated to working with expectant and birth parents. For more information visit: http://www.catholiccharities.com/adoption-pregnant/

Retail Services Closure
For several years, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada has been operating resale thrift stores providing the community with reasonably priced clothing and household goods. Taking a thoughtful look at our mission and operations, we have determined that it is in the best interest of those we serve to close our distribution center and two retail locations, one on Eastern Avenue and Tropicana Avenue and the other on Rainbow Boulevard and Charleston Boulevard.
We endeavor to always be wise and effective stewards of our resources as we provide for our community’s most vulnerable. Amid the current landscape of the competitive Las Vegas retail market, closing our thrift stores allows our agency to focus on our core mission of providing food, shelter, and comprehensive services to more than 100,000 clients each year.
With that being said, we cannot serve this great number of our community’s most vulnerable without your help: we continue to rely on food and donation drives, financial support, and the gift of volunteer service. Thank you for all you do to give help and hope to people in need.
How To Get Involved
There are many ways you can help support the mission of Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. Here’s what companies say:
Our business has grown steadily in Clark County in spite of this prolonged recession. In 2010, our decision to locate here was because we would be seen as a big fish in a little pond as opposed to California where we would be a little fish in the ocean. It's all about location. Southern Nevada is an important emerging market in which to do business, especially in the technology sector. The region has an extremely low instance of natural disasters, great accessibility to high-speed Internet connections, and the dry and mild climate makes cooling efficient and inexpensive. Clark County is an up-and-coming technology center, and a natural fit for any company to seriously consider.
The UNLV National Supercomputing Center enhances Southern Nevada's U.S. business competitiveness as a primary gateway for medical, energy and scientific data flow from coast-to-coast and markets abroad. Southern Nevada is the ideal setting for this facility, considered a "safe-zone" from natural disasters and having a highly sophisticated power grid in a rapidly growing market.
Cord Blood America, Inc. relocated from Southern California to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2009 for two key reasons, transportation and tax advantage. Our business depends on airports for movement of our products and convenient access to McCarran from our facility provided us with the assurance that we needed to maintain continuity to our service offering. As important was the tax structure and regulatory environment which were more advantageous that what we experienced in California, and factored heavily into our decision to be here.

About Clark County
Clark County is a dynamic and innovative organization dedicated to providing top-quality service with integrity, respect and accountability. With jurisdiction over the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and covering an area the size of New Jersey, Clark is the nation’s 14th-largest county and provides extensive regional services to more than 2.2 million citizens and more than 46 million visitors a year. Included are the nation’s 8th-busiest airport, air quality compliance, social services and the state’s largest public hospital, University Medical Center. The County also provides municipal services that are traditionally provided by cities to about 952,000 residents in the unincorporated area. Those include fire protection, roads and other public works, parks and recreation, and planning and development. The famed Las Vegas Strip sits at the heart of Clark County featuring unparalleled attractions like dancing fountains, a replica of the renowned Eiffel Tower, an erupting volcano and some of the world's largest and most beautiful resorts. Millions of people visit annually to enjoy our fine restaurants, shop a dazzling array of stores and relax at our luxurious spas. Las Vegas boasts more than 160,000 hotel rooms and is among the world's top convention destinations. Nevada has no shortage of compelling landscapes, and Clark County is no different. Mt. Charleston and skiing are just 45 minutes away, and Red Rock National Conservation area beckons on the western fringe of the Las Vegas Valley. Lake Mead National Recreation Area, located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, caters to boaters, swimmers, fishermen, hikers, wildlife photographers and roadside sightseers. Meanwhile, gambling is offered in the destinations of Mesquite, Primm and Laughlin, located on the sun-drenched Colorado River.

The other commissioners are Marilyn Kirkpatrick (August 2015), Larry Brown (January 2009), Lawrence Weekly (March 2007), Susan Brager (January 2007), and Mary Beth Scow (January 2011). Incorporated & Unincorporated Areas
As a “city” government, Clark County responds to the needs of about 952,000 residents in the urban unincorporated areas. Sahara Avenue, which crosses the Strip on the north side of the Sahara Hotel & Casino, is the municipal boundary for the City of Las Vegas. Those residing south of this line receive their traditional urban services from Clark County rather than from any of the County’s five cities: Las Vegas (pop. 640,174), Henderson (pop. 299,279), North Las Vegas (244,793), Boulder City (pop. 16,570) and Mesquite (pop. 20,325). The services provided there include all those functions normally associated with a city, such as public works, building inspections, fire protection, parks and recreation, etc. View a jurisdictional map of significant destinations such as Downtown Summerlin, the Las Vegas Convention Center and Sam Boyd Stadium within the Clark County-Las Vegas Valley area.

REVIEWS
- I totally thought I had already reviewed Damonte Park! My bad!
We live so close to this park. It is a great place to go if your a kid or an adult!
Our kids love the play structure, the open spaces to play kickball, fly a kite, play fetch with your dog, or go on a 4 mile walk that loops around the wetlands.
There is even stuff to do in the winter. A cute hill is there where younger children enjoy sledding down it!
The park also boasts two basketball courts and restrooms. Also there is a covered pavilion to hang out by the play structure if you want to get out of the sun.
There are quite a few benches to sit and take in the beauty of the wetlands/wild life and foot hills.
I think my favorite thing however, is that they do a great Fourth of July firework display with free food, drinks, and a bike parade for the kiddos!
We love coming here and enjoying all Damonte Park has to offer! ~Nikki R., Reno, NV
- Well friends, they FIXED the boarded up slides! Now we're talking!
My son actually said, with wide eyes, "Mom, there's no more wood up here anymore!" Nope, the slides are fixed kiddo. Go enjoy. ~Brandy W., Reno,NV
- Love this park. It's in a really nice neighborhood, has a great playground for kids, a grassy field and a trail that goes into the neighborhood. The only downside is that the parking lot isn't very big. We went around 4:30 pm and there were a couple spots, but by the time we were leaving(around 5:30), there were soccer lessons so parents were circling the parking lot and, I'm assuming, had to find street parking. ~ Amanda M., Reno, NV
- This is a pretty little park with a nice playground for the kids. There is lots of open space and nice well taken care of grass and landscaping.
The best part about this park are the miles of adjacent walking trails alongside the picturesque wetlands with bridges, ponds, creeks, benches, trees and flowers along the way. The view of the mountains is spectacular from every direction.
I knocked off one star because the cleanliness of the park restroom needed some work. ~ Danett P., Sparks, NV
- Absolutely great park but not nearly enough parking spaces. If you live close by you might as well walk but we brought a picnic and easy up so we drove lol. ~N.T., Oceanside, CA
- This is by far the best park I can ever remember taking my kids to. We were here on the 4th of July so there were flags decorating the area and tents for the holiday. There are biking/walking trails, a gazebo, a toddler play area and a larger area for older kids, swings, and a teeter totter, and a grass maze. The twenty minute drive from downtown Reno is well worth it. ~Jennifer W., Tucson, AZ
- Great park! 3 story tower to play on, rolling open hills, surrounded by bike path, and there was even a grass maze for kids to play in. There are a few tables and one pavilion for picnics.~Road H., Reno, NV
- This park is awesome. They have everything to entertain from the level of a toddler to a seasoned veteran of climbing and playing. They have child swings (those for children unable to yet pump while on a swing) and a plethora of slides. My kids had a lot of fun here and the only thing I would recommend is making sure your kids understand that the log looking feature on the larger structure is not a slide and not easy to climb. My oldest fell off of it, thinking it was a slide, within five minutes of arriving at the park (she is 3.5 years old at the moment). You'll definitely have a good time here.~Will H., Reno, NV
- This is a very nice park. The grounds are very well manicured. Don't see dog duty everywhere etc. ~ Melissa R., Reno, NV
- This park is really pretty and clean. Not only is there a playground for little and big kids to play, but a huge walking trail leading to a beautiful wetland meadow & pond. Kids love to bike and skate here. ~ Carissa P., Reno, NV
- Hands down, this is the best playground in Reno. We drive all the way out to the south end of town to take Toddler to this amazing structure. Three stories, three sections, five slides, bars, sliders, a climbing wall, and wiggly poles make for a structure so awesome that kids can stay up in it for hours without ever touching the ground. There is also a smaller, toddler-size structure for those with weak nerves. And those are just the play structures! There are also swings, see-saws, a maze, paved bike trails, a BBQ pavilion, basketball courts, and a nice restroom. Oh, and did I mention excellent parking, amazing views and cool public art? Every time I come here I keep expecting somebody to be there collecting entrance fees, because this park is so nice, it seems extraordinary that it is all free! ~ Tracy S., Reno,NV
- Great play structures, corn maze and bike paths. Covered eating area with four picnic tables, which is great! The only negative is that there isn't any shade or trees near the actual play structure. ~ AnnKristine P., Encinitas, CA
- This park is awesome. It's a short walk or bike ride from my house. Their basketball courts are never packed. Kids of all ages love the swings / jungle gyms. Even in the cold months it's an awesome outdoor space great for wearing out our friends kids when we babysit! Haha parking looks plentiful but actually isn't. Esp on weekends cars are stacked on the surrounding street. Not the best planning on the designers behalf and my only reason to downgrade them 1 star. ~Sabrina B, Reno,NV
- This park was worth the ten minute drive I thought it was going to be hot but there is plenty if shade as long as your active with your little people. It is pretty amazing it is three tiers and ha alot of unique things like tree slide and a moving teeter totter it also had a huge slide that would be fun but it was broken when we went. To the lady that comment in children pissing on the slides on multiple occasion your ridiculous for giving this place such a low rating for something it doesn't have any control over. ~ CodyanIrene R., Reno, NV
- This park is awesome! A three story play structure with all kinds of fun ladders, rock climbing walls, super fun slides and a "zip line" that keeps all age groups engaged for literally hours. There is also a smaller play structure for toddlers and swings for both bigger kids as well as babies/toddlers. There are lots of hills for rolling down as well as a labyrinth-type maze. Lots of benches and a covered picnic area; restroom is open even in the wintertime and is relatively clean. There are also basketball courts and open fields for running and playing. The wetlands nearby have a nice walking trail if some exploring is in order. So glad this park is here! ~ Becca B., Reno, NV

Donnelly Park- Dog Parks
Reviews:
- Ever since Rancho San Rafael temporarily shut down their dog park due to the ongoing drought, this has been my new go-to for my dogs to run around.
One of the perks of this park is that it's never overly crowded. Sometimes there may be up to 10 dogs roaming around the field and other times there isn't any other dogs. It really depends on the time of day you come.
One of the cool things I've noticed about Donnelly Park is their canine Christmas tree they put up during the holidays. I thought this was the cutest thing I have ever seen! Every Christmas someone will put up a Christmas tree and everyone is welcome to put an ornament on the tree with their dogs name. I loved this idea for the dog park.
It's also well maintained. I don't like having to worry about stepping in dog poop whenever I'm at a dog park. It seems like mostly everyone cleans up after their dog. Kudos! ~ Katherine G, Reno, NV
- Not all of Donnelly Park is green grass, benches and trees. Over 2/3 is a huge old cow pasture that is all fenced in with gates. There are three entrances and way plenty room for several dogs to enjoy themselves. A couple if ravines and lots of brush to chase mice out of and flush the occasional bird from.
Bring your own bag to pick up after you pet. There is a can available the leave the bag when done
Enjoy the park. I know Sheela does. ~Donna S, Reno, NV
- I love this park and so does my dog. It's more of a nature park rather than a kid friendly park which is great for me since I don't have kids. You can walk from this park all the way into Caughlin Ranch and end up in the hills onto a dirt trail. If you stop where the pavement ends and then head back, it's about a 1 hour and 12 minute walk and a little over 4 miles. You follow the path under the McCarran bridge. There is quite an incline on the way up but it's very gradual so you don't get winded but you still get a great workout. ~ Emily S. Reno,NV

Food For Thought
Carson City, Nevada, USA
3579 US Highway 50 E
Mission Statement: To provide nutritious meals to chronically hungry school children in our community
Despite federal and state social service programs, too many children in our community have little or no food on weekends. There are countless reasons for kids to go hungry – homelessness, parents out of work, lack of transportation to food banks or food kitchens, or access to kitchen facilities (such as family living long-term in hotel or car). All of these reasons prohibit children from eating regular, nutritious meals over the weekends. These children then return to school on Monday famished, their last meal being their school lunch from the previous Friday.
Food bags weigh less than five pounds, making them easier for children to carry. The bags are placed in the child’s backpacks in a closed-door meeting, and if the child does not have a backpack we provide one for them.
During the summer months, Food for Thought serves free nutritious lunches to all children ages 2 to 18 years old at a local park. The Summer Food Service Program was established by the USDA to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.
In our current economy, more and more children are going hungry. Additionally, the issue is becoming so widespread that the U.S. government has coined the phrase “food insecure.” This term refers to people in situations where they regularly and frequently do not know where their next meal is coming from. A report from the Center for American Progress: Hunger in America was published on October 5, 2011. This report found dramatic issues related to “food insecure” children:

REVIEWS
- This is a great trail and picnic area tucked away in the Mt. Rose area. You are welcomed to bring horses and dogs (must be leashed at all times).
The scenery: Beautiful tall green trees everywhere, an abundance of different wild flowers and clear trails with easy access. Lots of shade because of the trees. The commute: It's about 27 minutes from Sparks.
The parking: super easy! You can park at the trailhead or park at the picnic ground. I believe all the parking areas lead to a trail(s).
This trail is super family and dog friendly.
Avoid all of the down trees/tree trunks and rotting areas because this is where ticks hide and they are carrying the "plague." Go out and enjoy everyone! ~ Heather M. Sparks, NV - Today was a great day for snowshoeing. Cold but sunny! Galena creek running under a sheet of frozen ice. The wind blowing the snow off the peak of mt. Rose proper. The peace and quietness of a winter day in the forest.
Well established trails that can be hiked on without snowshoes on the packed down snow. The most fun is snowshoeing out in to the forest in the deep powder. First you pass by Marilyn's Pond which is iced and snowed over this time of year, so I stopped long enough to built a snowman on the edge of the pond. Then you pass by the old fish hatchery and more few other buildings in to an open area where there is a great view of mt. Rose and Chocolate mt.
You can keep going up the trail along Galena creek or just head out in to the forest to enjoy the nature and the large rock formation up there. This place is fun even in the winter time.
Great snowshoeing if you hit it right when they have a good snow pack at the park. ~ Linda H. Reno NV - One of my favorite parks - dog friendly! Lots of trails that can be either easy or pretty challenging. Views of the valley! Pretty little creeks everywhere. Depending on the trail you pick, at the higher elevation, shade is sparse and the sun can be brutal, so bring a hat during the summer and lots of ice cold water in your canteen. As for dogs, they really should stay leashed because sometimes, horses are on the trail and you just never know. At this time of the year, I like to keep an eye out for those gorgeous Sierra beauties, snow plants - these are stunning red cone-shaped plants that push their way out of the hardscrabble dirt.Make sure you stop by the visitor's center to study maps so you know where are going. If you come in the North entrance of Galena Park, they have lovely little picnic spots where you can bring charcoal for grill. Although you are fairly close to Mt. Rose Highway, you don't really hear any vehicular noise.~ Allie A. Incline Village, NV
- One of the best hiking parks in Reno, especially for novices or families with children. I have been coming to this park for walks for 16 years! Hard to believe but that's how awesome it is. And in the winter time come sledding here to beat the crowds further up the road at Mt. Rose. Dogs are allowed on leash and the trails are clear and wide. Strollers would work on some trails but not all. Parking is ample and there are plenty of day use areas like picnic tables and BBQs. There's both a north and south entrance where trails are accessible but the visitor center is on the north end of the park. There are many community events here year round so check the Washoe County parks website if you're looking for something to do. Finally, for more adventurous hikers, there is access from the park directly into more advanced forest hiking. Have fun! ~Jennie J. Reno,NV
- An awesome place to spend the weekend. Hike and explore the area. There are several well maintained trails fit for everyone's fitness level. I highly recommend the nature walk for beginners. Spring is here. Happy trails! ~Alma F. Reno,NV
- Ok, I think Luna and I found our place to hike until the snow comes 🙂 SO may tail heads and creeks/pond to explore we both are very excited. When entering the park you first come to the visiting center (which I didn't have time to check out). There are MANY different parking areas to explore, but I already had in mind the trail that goes to Marilyn's Pond. I took Bitterbrush Trail to the pond. The hike was easy and comes a crossed the Galena Creek (which Luna enjoyed playing in) All dogs must be on leash also..The park is very hiking/god/family friendly. And yup this park has poop bags for your dogs if you forget.~Sharon J. Reno, NV
